Driven spreading of thin liquid films: linear stability & transient growth
Roman Grigoriev
The problem of transient growth in the distortion of driven contact lines
(solid-liquid-gas) has recently sparked a controversy as to whether this
mechanism can provide an alternative route to pattern formation in the
absence of linear instability. In this brief introduction I will describe
modeling of driven spreading of liquid films on a solid substrate and the
results of generalized stability analysis.
