In a neighborhood of an equilibrium with a few unstable direction the dynamics is effectively low dimensional. Particulary intriguing is the fact that UB, the upper branch equilibrium (which has power/dissipation I,D values and 3D plots comparable to what is seen in turbulent simulations) has only a complex eigenvalue pair within the S-invariant subspace. |
