student J.J. "3-j" Jensen asks:
I am a PhD student at Emory in Neuroscience, affiliated with GaTech through the NSF-IGERT hybrid neural microsystems fellowship. I am interested in the course, but I would like to be sure that I do not have any conflicts or an insufficient background for the course. I have more quantative background than most NS students, and I am particularly interested in non-linear dynamics/chaotic systems, but I was not introduced through Strogatz. Is there anything specific about one's background or preparation which you feel would be n/s for joining the course?
Predrag's answer:
I am interested in getting more NS students into the course, and have had good interactions in the past. You can check the book chapters on the schedule homepage, but I think you are qualified.
student J.J. "3-j" Jensen asks:
I have a mandatory short course on [such and such dates] which would preclude attendance of your course on those days. Would missing those two classes pose a significant problem?
Predrag's answer:
I will follow B. Lautrup, Physics of Continuous Matter as posted on the course schedule, so you can download the chapters and read the material. I do not expect missing a few lectures here and there should be a problem, as long as you keep up on reading and exercises.
