Cocoa with my Dad

There is no better time than now

That one might realize

The youth will vanish soon enough

Into a teenage disguise

So here I sit tableside

With a man whom I respect

Telling him about kids stuff

In a world full of neglect

Lucky am I with corduroy overalls

Wearing my favorite shoes

Sipping delicious hot cocoa

Listening to the parent news

Oh you know the talk of which I speak

It’s the "Honey, so how is school?"

But with my dad it’s different

Because he treats me really cool

My dad talks to me with love

And it makes me understand

That a few minutes together in a coffee shop

Are the most precious in demand.
