• COURSE PREREQUISITE: Math 1502 or equivalent.
  

• TEXT: Physics for Scientists and Engineers by Randall D. Knight, Volume 1. The textbook is required to obtain the key for the online homework system.
  

• LECTURES: Attendance for all lectures is strongly encouraged. You will get a credit toward your final grade for the class participation. Please note that being late for the lecture, or not having working PRS device is considered as absence.

• HOMEWORKS: Homework problems are assigned weekly, through Mastering Physics online system, and are due Fridays by 11:00 PM. In addition, 3-4 essays may be assigned during the term. Essays must be typed and have to be handed in following Monday, before the lecture.

• QUIZZES: Each quiz will be 80 min in length. All quizzes will take place in Lecture Room 1 on Mondays between 6:00-7:30 PM. Four best quiz scores out of five will count toward your final grade. There will be no make-up quizzes. You must bring your student ID to all quizzes.

• FINAL EXAMINATION: The final examination will cover comprehensive questions for the semester's work. It is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13 2005, from 11:30 am - 2:20 pm (Period 5).

Registration for this course takes three steps:

• Register for this course through Oscar. If you have all prerequistes for this course, you already know how to do it.

• Register for Mastering Physics to access your homework assignments.
  • If you have registered for MasteringPhysics in the past, just go to the Mastering Physics page, log in with your old User ID and Password, and use this course ID: PHYS2211L
  • If you have not registered for Mastering Physics previously, go to the Mastering Physics login page. Click on REGISTER button and use the access code, which you got with your textbook, to obtain your Mastering Physics user ID and password. Choose PHYS2211L as your Course ID, and your nine-digit Georgia Tech ID number for your Student ID. Note that you cannot change your Course ID or Student ID once you have submitted them. Please type very carefully!

• Register your Personal Response System device, a.k.a. clicker. If you don't have a clicker, you can buy one from the bookstore. Go to the PRS registration page, and fill out the online form. Choose class phys2211l_peles_9am from the pull-down menu.

The deadline for Oscar registration is Friday, 26 August. The other two steps must be completed before Wednesday 31 August.
